The Power of Reflection

The Power of Reflection

Chuck Spidell

When you’re feeling stuck and unfocused in life, that’s a perfect time to reflect. It’s a great way to step back and clear your head.

The key is you’ve got to notice that feeling first and then do something about it. Any kind of growth spurt whether mental, physical, or spiritual is also a moment to pause and check in with yourself.

Create A Reflection Space

To start this process, find a quiet and peaceful space where you can relax and be present. For example, try going outside into nature, go for a walk, or just find somewhere that helps you feel calm and focused.

It's important to be somewhere you can be alone with your thoughts and really address what's holding you back or why you might be hesitating.

Getting It Out of Your Mind

Once you’ve found your reflection space, the next step is to let all of those thoughts out in real-time. Bring a notebook and a pen and write everything down that’s in your head:

  • What’s making you feel stuck or bothered
  • Mental clutter or overwhelm you’ve been feeling lately
  • Decisions you’ve been putting off
  • Lingering fears or worries

You can also record a voice memo on your phone and let everything out that way. If there’s someone you trust who’s a good listener - have them take notes on paper.

I like to use an AI tool like ChatGPT to unload my thoughts. I just talk about how I’m feeling and what’s on my mind - basically a mental data dump.

Embracing the Present

When you reflect, you're letting go of things you can’t control in future or things that have already happened in the past.

By keeping yourself in the present moment, it stops the overthinking in your mind. This is where you can really figure out what matters the most and what you should be focusing on in your life.

Through this method of self-reflection, you can find your purpose, focus and again - or even bigger things like your true calling in life.

Your Moment of Clarity

Reflection is a simple and powerful tool that anyone can use. It’s about stepping out of the mental noise of the past and the future and returning to the present moment. That’s where you can find the best clarity.

So whenever life feels a little too complicated or overwhelming, just remember that self-reflection is a practice that’s always there when you need it.
